We chose this topic to raise awareness about teenage abstinence. Without awareness there can be consequences that can result from sexual relations. We hope to make IA students make smarter more informed decisions.

The trait of abstaining (especially from sexual intercourse)
Presentation of Abstinence:
How Well Does It Work?
Abstinence is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. The way that this is possible is because if you have the mentality to stay abstinent then it allows there to be no chance of teenage pregnancy.
Abstinence Song-
Benefits of Being Abstinent-
1. More self respect and more respect for each other.
2. Security that you're not being pursued for sexual reasons.
3. Greater chance of faithfulness in marriage, and trust in your partner's ability to control him/herself with other people.
4. Chance to develop more depth in relationships.
5. Less worries regarding pregnancy, birth control, STD's, emotional betrayal, etc.
6. Stronger marriage. Statistically it has been proven that marriages between people who have practiced abstinence have a lower divorce rate.
Statistics about Abstinent
Studies have shown that abstinent teens report, on average, better psychological well-being and higher academic achievement than those who are sexually active. Delaying the process of reducing early sexual activity among teens can decrease their overall exposure to risks of unwed childbearing, STDs, and psycho-emotional harm.

In 2007 in Oakland County there was a 15.9% of among kids between ages 15-19.
In a survey we took of people between the ages of 13 and 17 of the International Academy and from a public event at the Bloomfield Hills Library, this is the data we collected:
Question

60%
Would you say yes or no to a sexual situation?
70 %
30%

25 %
As you can see from this data, many of these kids from ages 13-17 have not been in a sexual situation, but would say yes to one. Unfortunately almost 3/4th of the people do not know what being abstinent is. 75% of these kids believe that they think that they know consequences for underage sex but this is debatable.
