.     Why Breakfast is so Important to Kids that go to I.A.

     It's not a secret, students that attend the International Academy do twice as more work than the average high schooler and get half the amount of sleep.  It is very important to most IA students to be as awake as possible during the day so they can learn as much as possible.  How do we achieve such awakeness with such little amount of sleep?... by simply eating breakfast.  Everyone has heard the phrase "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" when we hear this we just believe it's something that our parents say because it's what their parents say, and their parents told them, and so on and so on.  We believe that there is not really evidence to prove this statement.  This is wrong.  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and there is proof of this. 

 

 

Benefits of Eating Breakfast:

     Academic and behavioral

     Kids who eat breakfast tend to benefit in three catagories: behavoraly, phisically, and intelectualy.  Kids who do not eat breakfast tend to have more behavioral problems than kids who eat breakfast.  This is because eating breakfast helps maintain the ability to focus on one task and end up spending their energy on something they are not supposed to be doing.  However, kids who eat breakfast generally do better in school than kids that go without breakfast.  This is important to the average IA student.  Breakfast helps kids consentrate which helps them learn more. 

 

     Physical

     Kids who eat breakfast are also less likely to be overwieght.  When you do not eat breakfast your body believes that it needs to store all the energy you take in because it does not know how long it will be befor your next meal.  This is because the gap of time between dinner and breakfast is already a long period of time to go without eating and by skipping breakfast the gap only increases.  When bodies store food weight gain is often an effect.  Also contributing to weight gain for those who decide not to eat breakfast is the fact that people who do not eat breakfast tend to eat more throughout the day than the average person who eats breakfast regularly.  Not only do kids that do not eat breakfast have a higher chance of developing obesity they also have a higher risk of developing high cholesterol and diabetes.

Solution:

  • if you feel you don't have time in the morning to eat breakfast try: packing up the night before, try a to go breakfast, manage time wisely by not going on facebook or other websites until everything else is done, buy a healthy breakfast at school.
